Siemens & ENKA Secure $1.68B Contract for 921 MW Power Plant in Dhi Qar, Iraq

Iraq has officially commenced construction on the 921-megawatt Nasiriyah Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant in Dhi Qar Province, marking a significant advancement in the nation’s energy infrastructure. This project, a collaboration between Siemens Energy and Turkish firm ENKA, is situated within the existing Nasiriyah Thermal Power Station. It is designed to operate primarily on natural gas, with provisions for future integration of hydrogen blending technology, aligning with Iraq’s sustainability objectives.

The Nasiriyah CCGT plant is part of a broader $1.68 billion infrastructure initiative launched by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, which also includes the development of a 700-bed Integrated Medical City and urban infrastructure enhancements in the Suq al-Shuyukh district. These projects aim to bolster electricity generation, healthcare services, and urban development in the region.

The new power facility is expected to play a crucial role in addressing Iraq’s electricity shortfall, enhancing grid stability, and reducing reliance on imported energy. Its construction underscores the government’s commitment to improving essential services and fostering economic growth in underserved areas.
